Electa Quinney
Mohican Teacher and Mentor
1807–1885
Electa Quinney was Wisconsin’s first known public school teacher, and a noteable mentor in the Mohican community. We follow her journey from the Mohican homelands on the east coast through the tribes forced removal west and ultimate relocation to the area now known as Wisconsin. Learn how Electa and the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohicans used both non-native and traditional native education to keep their traditions alive and preserve their ways of life.
